When an open, unsealed tube goes onto a screen printing line, a solid steel or aluminum rod (called a mandrel) slides inside the tube body. The squeeze blade presses the mesh screen firmly against the outer plastic wall as the tube rotates.

The metal mandrel acts as an internal spine, ensuring the flexible plastic wall does not yield or collapse under pressure. This guarantees:

• Even ink transfer across the surface.

• Sharp text and precise fine-line alignment.

2. What Happens to a Clamped Tube Under the Screen

When a tube is already clamped or crimped at the tail end, an internal mandrel can no longer be inserted through the tube body.

Without that internal metal support:

• The Tube Collapses: The moment the squeegee blade applies downward pressure, the flexible plastic flexes inward.

• Blurred & Distortion: Because the surface deflects, the mesh screen drags across the sagging plastic, resulting in smudged text, bleeding ink, and distorted graphics.
